Q: Where are the preparatory classes held?
A: ProChef preparatory classes are hosted at the college's Hyde Park, NY and San Antonio, TX campuses to provide you with the flexibility and convenience needed when devising your career path.

Q: Are there prerequisites?
A: No, there are no prerequisites; however, a minimum of six months in a professional kitchen or foodservice establishment is required for any of our professional development programs.

Q: How much do the courses cost?
A: ProChef courses range in price from $295 to $1,095 and are anywhere from two to five days in duration. The price of the classes includes tuition, meals, and supplemental course information. The cost of the ProChef Certification exam is $1,500.

Q: How do I know what is required for each level of the ProChef Certification exam?
A: Download our detailed study guides for more information – Level I, Level II and Level III.

Q: Do I need to start at Level I?
A: The Application Review Committee will evaluate your application and make recommendations based on your education, background, and experience. Many applicants are approved to start at Level II. However, Level II is a prerequisite for Level III.

Q: Are Continuing Education Units (CEUs) awarded for the courses?
A: Yes, individuals who successfully complete any of the ProChef courses are awarded CEUs. The number of CEUs awarded is dependent on the length of the course, but typically range from 1.0 to 3.0 CEUs.

Q: How long does it take to achieve certification?
A: The rate of completion depends upon your background, experience, and culinary knowledge. Some participants may be able to complete the certification within a year, while others may take between three and four years.


Q: How will I benefit from the ProChef Certification advisement?
A: The advisement will provide a professional development path for culinarians who wish to pursue ProChef Certification. CIA faculty members serve as mentors, working with individuals to determine their strengths and weaknesses, and will make recommendations that will serve as a preparatory guide to certification.

Q: How are the program's exams administered?
A: The ProChef Certification exams take place over a four-day period, and include written and practical tests. Each day concludes with a one-on-one debriefing of the day's results.

Q: How can I apply for the ProChef Certification exam?
A: To apply for the ProChef Certification program, download the online application and follow the instructions. To register for classes, please contact our Customer Service Department at 1-800-888-7850 or 845-452-2230.

Q: Is there an application deadline?
A: We recommend registering for the ProChef Certification exam at least eight to 10 weeks in advance.
