Conventional wisdom says that a healthy diet is one that is low in fat and—invariably—short on flavor. We beg to differ. And so do millions of connoisseurs of Alaska seafood the world over. You can study reams of nutritional research. Or, simply observe the extraordinary health and longevity of people in countries where seafood is a mainstay of the diet. Either way, Alaska seafood is as healthy as it is delicious.

Effective, precise management assures Alaska's fisheries are productive, sustainable, clean, and healthy-as mandated by the Alaska state government. Since admittance into the Union as the 49th state in 1959, Alaska has served as a model of fisheries management around the globe. One reason for this is that Alaska remains the lone state in the nation with a constitutional mandate stipulating all fish "be utilized, developed and maintained on the sustained yield principle."
Why Alaska Seafood
About the Fisheries
The Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute is a marketing organization with the mission of increasing the economic value of the Alaska seafood resource through:
Increasing positive awareness of the Alaska Seafood brand
Collaborative marketing programs that align ASMI and industry marketing efforts for maximum impact within the food industry
Long-term proactive marketing planning
Quality assurance, technical industry analysis, education, advocacy and research
Prudent, efficient fiscal management
The Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute (ASMI) was created over twenty years ago as a cooperative partnership between the Alaska seafood industry and state government to advance the mutually beneficial goal of a stable seafood industry in Alaska. It is Alaska's "official seafood marketing agency", and is established under state law as a public corporation.
The Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute (ASMI) is divided into three distinct marketing programs: international, foodservice and retail. All three programs are designed to enhance the appeal and popularity of Alaska Seafood. The international program operates in the European Union, China, and Japan, while the retail and foodservice programs conduct their activities in the U.S.
ASMI's marketing programs are designed to position Alaska Seafood as a delicious, healthy, center-of-the-plate meal selection.
For example: the international program conducts elaborate promotions in retail stores and restaurants around the world, from the diverse seafood markets of Asia to those of the European Union. The retail program provides time-saving meal solutions to on-the-go consumers by arranging retail displays in thousands of supermarkets across the United States. The foodservice program works with major restaurant and hotel chains to develop promotions that keep customers coming back for more of their favorite Alaska Seafood entrees.
Nothing is more important to us than hearing from the people we serve. So we welcome any questions or comments you might have about Alaska seafood or the industry we represent.
The Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute's (ASMI) marketing office is located in Seattle, Washington, and the administrative office is located in Juneau, Alaska.
The Foodservice Program is designed to help commercial and non-commerical operators source, handle, menu, and promote wild Alaska seafood. Please contact the Seattle office for educational materials including: species identification, handling and quality information, fact sheets, and training videos. POS materials for Alaska seafood promotions are also available as well as recipe books developed for chefs.
